This was not my first time visiting, but this was by far my favorite trip to date. I could ask for better food, better weather, or better company. Our server was superb. With 10+ people at our table, lots of kids running around, and plenty of all you can eat plates, she was on top of everything Most everyone was dining outside as it was a particularly cool and shady summer day. It was a fun atmosphere of families enjoying each others company and live music being played in the background Some tips: Order the all you can eat sausage, brisket and ribs plate. It's only ~$33 and it comes with those meats, baked beans, Cole slaw, potato salad, bread, pickles, and onions. They don't advertise this, but even if you order all you can eat, you can still a togo box. The spicy bbq sauce they have on the table (red top) is delicious and has a slight kick. You can now order drinks from the beer/wine cellar next door or BYOB. The restroom inside is fairly small, but there are restrooms on the side as you walk to the hostess stand. There are things for the kids. Near the front there's a delightful lemonade stand, and just behind that a ways is a playground kids park area. If you've saved any room, I would try the banana bread pudding or the pecan pie. Lastly, try to get there early. There is plenty of parting and seating, but this place is very popular, and you will most likely want to avoid the insane crowds and wait times This might not be the best bbq in Texas, but it's damn good. And plenty of other bbq spots have you waiting forever, you pay way more money, and it's just not as fun. This place is great for large and small parties and every gatherings for every occasion Cheers!!

Salt Lick is our favorite barbecue in Texas. Well, we won't eat barbecue outside of Texas, ha. The ribs are delectable and the sides are equally as good and savory, not sweet like at some other places. It's BYOB but there's an adjacent wine & beer bar where you can purchase drinks and bring over to the restaurant. There's plenty of seating indoor and outdoors we get there early, like by 5:30 because the line starts building later. Table service.

I love going to this place when I used to live in Austin. back in 2017 before moving to San Francisco in 2020. Been to this location multiple times, but this is an update to my previous comment. I visited Austin 3x since I moved to San Francisco. And whenever I do, I always make sure to always come back to this restaurant and the reasons are: 1.) The Staff - always very nice, hospitable, professionals and happy people. 2.) The entire place is a gem. Always thriving, always vibin' 3.) The BBQ - of course, HEAVEN! 4.) The Sauce - PHENOMENAL! I always order to go bbq and sauces to bring to my boyfriend and my friend in San Francisco, they always loved it. Worth coming back over and over again. This won't be my last.

Oh. What a pleasant experience. BYOB?! That's awesome! But we didn't haha so we enjoyed the little winery and draft bar inside while we waited for our table. Very nice employees, speedy service and the outside venue is so large you can host a big group of folks, as long as you can get them to travel out there. It was beautiful, well kept clean and nice atmosphere there were signs that said "No Soft Drinks" i don't know what that meant but i think it was a joke. lol

Lunch at Salt Lick. It was not crowded and I was seated immediately. I ordered 1/2 lbs of beef ribs. It is $24.95 and comes with two slabs of ribby goodness. Two may not seem a lot but see pic, it's a good amount for lunch. They had a sauce or rub that was slightly sweet. They had two different sauces but I didn't try them. The ribs by themselves tasted awesome. My server did a good job and was courteous and attentive. It is a bit loud in the dining area even though it is large and only a few dozen people were eating. Had a good carnivore lunch and would definitely come back.

By far the greatest restaurant in the world. The food is tremendous and despite how big it has gotten, it still feels like a downhome, rustic traditional Texas BBQ.

Texas in all the ways! Off the beaten path about 25 miles south of Austin you'll find The Salt Lick BBQ serving up Texas Style bbq. For starters the place is huge, the footprint of the parking lot, buildings on site, definitely screams TEXAS! Patio seating is plentiful, indoor seating is ample, not to mention the kids ranch to keep the minis busy, this place is a family style bbq comfort joint. Being I was a first-timer, I decided to get my money's worth and went with the family style all you can eat which included ribs, brisket, & sausage. Sides included were potato salad, beans, and coleslaw. Considering I'm not a fan of potato salad or coleslaw, I solely went with the beans. Biased opinion, Texas uses ranch style beans which I've yet to get accustomed to therefore I wasn't a huge fan. However let's talk meat! The ribs, flavorful which a nice bark. The smoke profile was given pecan or cherry wood. Brisket was lean, however by our third round we discovered a few of the more fatty pieces. Sausage had a good snap however flavor profile was fairly bland. Overall, my first experience at Salt-Lick was a decent one. The onsite cellar allows you your choice of beer or wine for purchase which was a nice touch. If you're a bbq fan and in the area, The Salt-Lick should be tried at least once.

This was our first time here. We were here early on a holiday and it wasn't as packed as it can get (I hear it gets crazy busy). We don't live close, but we'll be back, especially to introduce out-of-state guests to Texas BBQ. It wasn't what I expected. It was better. I expected great brisket, and they have that. But I also expected sweet BBQ rubs, brown-sugary BBQ sauces and beans, and mayo-forward cole slaw and potato salad. None of this was present. And I really appreciated that, quite a bit. The slaw was vinegar-based. The potato salad was German (reflecting the German influence on the historical origins of Texas BBQ, which is largely German/Mexican fusion meets cattle country). The sauces were very flavorful and not too sweet. And through some dishes were a little salty (which you expect from a place called "Salt Lick"), it was all really delicious. The peach cobbler was also unique and amazing. The dough in it wasn't crispy. But it was really tasty, like a bread pudding, almost. And it wasn't overly sweetened. It's served a little bit above body temperature: slightly warm, but not hot, so it doesn't instantly melt the ice cream. And it was a large (shareable) portion. What I fell in love with the most was the smoked turkey, which stands in its own or pares perfectly with their BBQ sauce. The texture and smokiness of the turkey breast were amazing. Our server had worked there 13 years and was a real delight. We loved walking around the place and just enjoying the space they've created there. Then we went next door, got some wine and drank it out in the courtyard under a majestic live oak tree. We had a great time there, then explored other fun things in the area. There's lots to do nearby, as remote as this place seems, including a brewery, a distillery, a magic-themed place, an olive oil shop, and more.
